Pakistan announces squad for T20 World Cup after ICC ultimatum

Pakistan announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026. This has rejected Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi's threat to boycott the tournament in solidarity with Bangladesh. Earlier, Naqvi had expressed his desire to skip the T20 World Cup in the wake of the ICC's decision to replace Bangladesh with Scotland after they refused to travel to India due to security concerns.

The team will be led by Salman Ali Agha. The tournament is scheduled to be played in India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8, but all of Pakistan's group matches will be played in Sri Lanka. The team was announced at the Gaddafi Stadium by PCB's High-Performance Director, Aqib Javed, Agha and White Ball Head Coach Michael James Hasson through a press conference.

Salman Ali Agha has been appointed captain. Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi have returned to the team. Pacer Haris Rauf was dropped due to form and fitness concerns, while keeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan missed the cut after a quiet performance in the Big Bash League.
