Explainer: What is ‘Sikh GPT’, which imitates ChatGPT?

Modern technology has made everything easier. Talking about Artificial Intelligence (AI), it is being used and misused as well. Now the answer to every question is found from AI, but when this technology is involved in religious matters, the scope of errors and the fear of misuse also increases. One such case has come to light where an AI platform called ‘Sikh GPT’, imitating ‘ChatGPT’, has raised many questions. According to the information, serious errors and contradictions have been seen in the content of ‘Sikh GPT’. While investigating this matter seriously, United Sikhs (UK) has demanded formal intervention of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

Available on the App Store and Google Play, ‘Sikh GPT’ is an AI-based tool that claims to be a platform for answering questions related to Sikhism, Gurbani, history and ethics, that too with disclaimers. However, according to United Sikhs (UK), many of the answers given by this platform are not in line with the scriptures, are detached from the facts, incomplete and quite wrong.

Issue raised by United Sikhs (UK)

The issue was raised by Harmeet Shah Singh, Director of Communications and Advocacy of United Sikhs (UK), who has been an experienced national and international investigative journalist and editor. He checked the content on ‘Sikh GPT’ by giving clear, fact-based and testable prompts. The answers given through these prompts showed incorrect lines as Gurbani and serious errors in the letters, numbers of the verses of the Bani, which made it clear that the platform is not capable of working as a reliable religious source.

Demand for Panthic investigation

The organization says that if these errors were not exposed in time, the ‘Sikh GPT’ would have continued to work silently in the AI world and continue to spread misinformation to the new generation. This platform would have started being used like an untouchable religious authority without any Panthic supervision.

According to United Sikhs (UK), this case clearly shows that in the current AI era, fact-checking has become the most important responsibility. Technical answers are not reliable, especially when the matter is related to religious, historical and spiritual truth. In a detailed letter dated 24 January 2026, Harmeet Shah Singh, on behalf of United Sikhs (UK), has demanded from Sri Akal Takht Sahib that AI platforms like ‘Sikh GPT’ be subjected to a panthic scrutiny, guidelines be laid down for the use of AI related to Sikhism and if necessary, show-cause notices be issued to the concerned parties. This letter has been sent to Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, and Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, President of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee.
