US gave 15-year security guarantee: Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Monday that the United States has offered Ukraine security guarantees for 15 years under a proposed peace plan but that he would prefer a 50-year commitment to stop Russia’s attempts to forcibly occupy its territory. He spoke after meeting with US President Donald Trump at a Florida resort on Tuesday, during which Trump said Ukraine and Russia were “closer than ever” to a peace deal.

“This war will not end without real security guarantees,” Zelensky told reporters. Details of the security guarantees were not made public, but Zelensky said they included monitoring of the peace deal and the involvement of partners. On the other hand, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said today that Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump may hold talks in the near future, but there is no indication that the Russian leader will talk to Zelensky.
