Bangladesh's first female Prime Minister Khaleda Zia passes away

Bangladesh's first female prime minister and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson Khaleda Zia passed away on Tuesday morning after a prolonged illness. According to local media reports, the 80-year-old Zia breathed her last at Dhaka's Evercare Hospital around 6 am, as confirmed by her personal doctor Professor AZM Zahid Hossain.

She had been admitted to the hospital since November 23 and her condition remained critical due to a chest infection. On November 27, she was shifted to the CCU, where she was being treated by a team of local and foreign specialists, but there was no improvement in her health. Family members, including her son Tariq Rahman, visited her at the hospital on Monday night.
