Unnao rape case: Supreme Court stays Delhi High Court order, no relief for Sengar

The Supreme Court on Monday stayed the bail granted to former Uttar Pradesh MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the Unnao rape case and suspended the earlier orders of the Delhi High Court. Acting on a petition filed by the CBI, the court issued notice to Sengar and sought his response on the matter.

The CBI had challenged the bail order of the Delhi High Court, arguing that considering the gravity of the crime, Sengar's release was not justified.

The victim of the Unnao rape case expressed satisfaction on Monday that the Supreme Court had stayed the order of the Delhi High Court. The victim has expressed her full faith in the judicial system. The victim said while talking to the media, "I am very happy with this decision. I have got justice from the Supreme Court. I have been raising my voice for justice from the beginning." She further said, "I do not make any allegations against any court. I have faith in all courts, but the Supreme Court has given me justice and will continue to give it."

Senger, who is serving a life sentence after being convicted in the high-profile Unnao rape case, will now remain in custody till further orders of the Supreme Court. The case had been a topic of discussion and anger across the country due to the nature of the crime and allegations of misuse of political influence.

It is worth mentioning that this case is from the year 2017, when the case of rape of a minor girl came to light in Unnao. In this case, Sanger was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2019. He was also charged with several other serious charges like the death of the victim's father in custody and a road accident that occurred with the victim's family.
