Ji Ram Ji Bill introduced in Lok Sabha

The Developed India Guarantee for Employment and Livelihood Mission (Gramin) (VB-G Ram Ji) Bill, which seeks to replace the twenty-year-old MGNREGA Bill and increase the daily wage to 125, was introduced in the Lok Sabha by Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today. He said that the new bill will not only fulfill Mahatma Gandhi's dream of making villages self-reliant but will also ensure employment. Rural Development Minister Chouhan said that the bill will lead to all-round development of villages and people will be free from poverty. Congress's Jai Prakash said that the name of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi has been removed from the bill, which is the biggest crime.

Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra accused the government of insulting Mahatma Gandhi and Rabindranath Tagore, who had given the title of Mahatma to the Father of the Nation, by giving the new name to MGNREGA. She said that the government is destroying Mahatma Gandhi's idea of Ram Rajya through the bill. Meanwhile, CPM, CPI, CPI (ML)-Liberation, RSP and All India Forward Bloc issued a joint statement demanding withdrawal of the bill. They said that if the bill is not withdrawn, protests will be held on December 22. NREGA Sangharsh Morcha and social activists warned that if the bill is not withdrawn, protests will start from December 19.
