Gold smuggling case: Actress Rania sent to DRI custody in gold smuggling case

Kannada actress Ranya Rao, who was arrested on charges of gold smuggling, was on Friday sent to the custody of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) for three days by a special court in Bengaluru. Ranya was arrested by DRI officials at the Bengaluru International Airport while smuggling 14.8 kg of gold when she arrived in Bengaluru on an Emirates flight from Dubai on Monday night. The value of the gold bars seized from her is Rs 12.56 crore. Meanwhile, after Ranya's arrest at the Bengaluru airport, a picture of her swollen eyes and bruises started circulating on the internet media, leading to speculation that the actress might have been beaten up during or after her arrest. Karnataka State Women's Commission President Nagalakshmi Choudhary said regarding the circulated picture that the commission cannot investigate unless a complaint is registered. If Rania files a complaint, the commission will take action accordingly. Rania has acted in many South Indian language films.
