'Indians are safe in Panama hotel', India's response regarding people deported from America

Nearly 300 migrants, including Indians, have been deported from the US as part of Donald Trump's crackdown on illegal immigrants. These deportees have been kept in a hotel in Panama from where they are appealing for help through messages written on paper. Now in this matter, a tweet from the Indian embassy in Panama, Nicaragua and Costa Rica has emerged.

What the Indian embassy said
The Indian embassy said in a post, "Panamanian authorities have informed us that a group of Indians have arrived in Panama from the US. They are safe in a hotel with all necessary facilities. The embassy team has been granted consular access. We are working closely with the host government to ensure their well-being."

300 people trapped in hotel
The statement comes a day after a report claimed that around 300 people from various countries including Iran, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan and China, who were deported from the US during President Donald Trump's tenure, were held hostage in a hotel in Panama.

Appeal for help
Some deportees displayed desperate messages for help on the windows of their hotel rooms, saying that we are not safe in our country.

What did Panama's Security Minister say?Panama's Security Minister Frank Abrego said in this regard that these illegal immigrants coming from the US are being provided with medical facilities and food at the hotel under the migration agreement between Panama and the US. However, they are not allowed to leave the hotel until international authorities arrange for them to return to their country of origin.

The United States is using Panama as a transit country for deportees because some countries have difficulty deporting individuals directly. A similar flight of deportees from a third country is expected to arrive in Costa Rica on Wednesday.
