US-Iran: Iran to buy American corn, soybeans and wheat: Trump

President Donald Trump has called the peace talks with Iran a victory for American farmers and said the release of frozen Iranian funds would be linked to the country buying American-grown corn, soybeans and wheat.

Trump posted on social media, "These are the things that Iran desperately needs. This is a humanitarian crisis, and I think it's important to help."

"I don't expect the trade to be very big in the short term," said Joseph Glauber, research fellow emeritus at the International Food Policy Research Institute.

Glauber noted that it is unlikely that Iran will abandon its other food trading partners for the sake of the United States. He said Iran's major suppliers include Brazil, India, Turkey, the European Union, Canada, Australia and Argentina, and that Trump's demand to buy from the US "will create some bitterness with some of our competitors."
