Piece of cloth left in stomach during operation; Priyanka Gandhi demands investigation

Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has demanded an impartial inquiry into the alleged medical negligence at a government medical college here, where a piece of cloth was allegedly left inside a woman's stomach after giving birth.

In a letter to Kerala Health Minister Veena George, Vadra said that the alleged medical negligence caused the young mother to suffer immense pain, which could have been life-threatening. She hoped that the inquiry orders issued by the District Medical Officer in response to the woman's complaint would be carried out impartially and objectively.

Vadra noted that while Kerala's public healthcare system has been instrumental in making medical treatment accessible to a majority of the people, Mananthavady Medical College, a vital lifeline for the public in her Wayanad parliamentary constituency, is grappling with a severe shortage of resources.
