Open Digital University Policy approved

The Punjab Cabinet today approved the ‘Private Digital Open University Policy-2026’ on the foreign model, which has paved the way for opening a Punjab Digital Open University. The green signal has also been given for opening a medical college and hospital in Lehragaga. Baba Hira Singh Bhattal College will now be converted into a medical college and it has also been decided to adjust the staff of the old college.

The ‘Punjab Private Digital Open Universities Policy-2026’ approved in the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann aims to provide a platform for online and open distance learning programs under which students can complete the entire degree sitting at home on a mobile or laptop and these degrees will be legally valid. At least 2.5 acres of land, digital content studios, control rooms, server rooms and operation centers, state-of-the-art digital infrastructure will be required for the establishment of these ‘universities’.
