I-PAC raids: Police initiate investigation against unidentified ED officials

Kolkata Police on Saturday began the process of identifying the Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials who were allegedly involved in the theft of documents from the residence and the office of a consultancy firm of I-PAC chief Prateek Jain.

After the FIR was registered, the police are trying to identify the central agency employees who were present at both the places during the operation, a senior police officer said. On Saturday morning, officers from Shakespeare Sarani police station visited Jain's residence and collected CCTV footage and DVR recordings; along with this, statements of domestic staff and security personnel have also been recorded.

It is worth mentioning that Trinamool Congress (TMC) chairperson Mamata Banerjee had filed two complaints against the ED on Friday, following which the Kolkata and Bidhannagar police have registered cases under sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for criminal intimidation, theft, criminal trespass and Section 66 of the IT Act.

The officer alleged that the ED informed the police five hours after the search began and when the police officers reached there, ED and CRPF personnel stopped them and allegedly threatened them with sticks. Mamata Banerjee has alleged that documents and electronic data related to the Trinamool Congress elections were stolen during the raid. According to the police, the ED officials neither showed identity cards nor gave a court search warrant to the local officials, due to which the investigation is ongoing and the role of the central agency employees is being investigated.
