Staff writer New York -Kanushree Jain is an Indian American actress, dancer and model. Born in New Delhi and brought up in New York City, she is a complete urbanite. She loves the richness in diversity and the opportunities to chase dreams that dwell in metropolitan cities. From the tender age of 5 years old, Kanushree knew she wanted to be a film actress. From school plays to dance recitals, Kanushree was always active in extracurricular activities in addition to being an A+ student. Kanushree has studied acting at one of NYC’s top acting schools, Stella Adler Acting school and learned the improv technique at Magnet Theatre. She has done several short films, music videos and commercials since graduating Hunter College with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. She played a small role of a fashion model in the popular HBO show, Billions, and played the lead role of a diva supermodel in “Unbeautiful”, a short film selected as a finalist in the HBO’s Asian American film competition. As a SAG actress, she was also cast as the leading lady in the musical, Bollywood Dreams, acting alongside Dance India Dance Season 4 judge, Rajeev Surti and Season 1 finalist, SiddheshPai as her costars. In her modeling career, her very first bridal photoshoot was the editorial feature of South Asian Bridal magazine. Kanushree is also the face of America’s Next Top Model celebrity judge, Jay Manuel’s, own beauty line featured on HSN.com. Currently represented by Wilhelmina modeling agency and Abrams Artists Agency, she continues to grace the runway for NYFW and show her spark in commercials. Kanushree finds herself to be extremely blessed to have dance in her life. She fell in love with dance when she was 8 years old and has devoted herself to it ever since. She grew up doing Bollywood dance like most Indian children and went on to study Contemporary dance in college. During her junior year, she interned at a Latin dance studio, Paul Pellicoro’sDancesport, and learned Salsa, Bachata, Hustle, Waltz, Cha Cha and Zouk. After college, she completed a rigorous training program at Broadway Dance Center where she focused on ballet, jazz, tap and theatre dance. She also studied Lifts and Dips also called Acro dance with America’s Got Talent semi finalist, Dave Paris for two years. Now she teaches weekly classes in Zumba and Bollywood at PielCanela Dance, one of the top Latin dance studios in Manhattan. She loves traveling all over the map to dance for different events and host workshops worldwide. Her last NYE performance in Chicago, where she danced soulfully to RahatFateh Ali Khan’s Mere RashkeQamar and maintained high energy to Sanjay LeelaBhansali’sNagada Sang Dhol was a spectacle to remember and really rang in 2019 with a bang. The entire audience joined her afterwards on the dance floor to celebrate the new year!
