Hajj 2026 starts: Holy Hajj pilgrimage begins today: Millions of Muslims from all over the world, including 1.75 lakh pilgrims from India, reach Mecca

Hajj 2026 starts: Amid the ongoing regional tensions in West Asia, the five-day 'Hajj pilgrimage' of Islam began on Monday. More than 1.6 million Muslims from home and abroad have begun their journey from the holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia to the historic tent city of Mina. The pilgrims will spend the night praying in tents set up in the open plains of Mina, after which they will march to the 'Plains of Arafat' for the main ritual and prayers of Hajj early on Tuesday.

This time, about 1.75 lakh pilgrims from India are participating in this holy pilgrimage. Despite the fragile ceasefire situation and widespread uncertainty in the region due to the Iran war, there is no lack of enthusiasm among the faithful. On the first day of the pilgrimage, pilgrims were seen performing circumambulation (tawaf) around the holy Kaaba in Masjid-al-Haram, despite the heat of Mecca. For pilgrims, Hajj is a spiritual experience where they pray with full devotion for God's mercy and forgiveness for their past sins.
