Self-reliance in defence a strategic necessity: Air Chief Marshal

Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal A P Singh has termed self-reliance as a strategic imperative to develop strong indigenous defence capabilities. He was speaking at the graduation march-in ceremony of the 48th Flight Test Course here. Eleven test pilots and six flight test engineers of the 48th Flight Test Course graduated after completing a rigorous 48-week multi-disciplinary training curriculum at the Air Force Test Pilots School (AFTPS).

According to an official statement issued today, the graduating class this year comprised a group of 17 officers, out of which 14 were from the Indian Air Force, one from the Indian Army and two from the Indian Navy. The graduates will join the Aviation Wing of the Aircraft and Systems Testing Establishment, one of the premier units of the Indian Air Force. The statement said, “Emphasizing self-reliance as a strategic imperative for the development of strong indigenous defence capabilities, Air Chief Marshal A P Singh highlighted the huge responsibility that the test crew (pilots and engineers) will have to shoulder to enhance the country’s indigenisation drive and strengthen the aerospace ecosystem.” The Air Force Chief also stressed the need to reduce the design-to-delivery time, while maintaining high standards of safety and quality of equipment.
