'Arunachal has never been recognized as an Indian territory'

A day after India lodged a strong protest over the alleged harassment of an Indian woman born in Arunachal Pradesh at the Shanghai airport, China today insisted that it has never recognised Arunachal Pradesh, which was illegally established by India. In Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning denied the allegations, calling the state a Chinese territory. The woman passenger was travelling from London to Japan. She was detained for about 18 hours simply because her Indian passport listed Arunachal Pradesh as her birthplace.

Mao said, “What we have learned is that the Chinese border inspection officers conducted the inspection in accordance with laws and regulations. During this, the woman’s legal rights and interests were protected and she was not detained or harassed. The airline provided the passenger with comfort and food, he said.
