We don't have a magic wand to reduce pollution: Chief Justice

The Supreme Court has agreed to hear on December 3 a petition raising concerns over the deteriorating air quality in Delhi-NCR. The court said that the issue of air pollution needs to be continuously monitored.

Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi took note of the information given by amicus curiae Aparajita Singh who said that the situation in Delhi-NCR is "worrying and it is a health emergency" in terms of air pollution. "Courts do not have a magic wand. Only experts can solve this problem. I know that air pollution is dangerous for Delhi-NCR," she said. Meanwhile, the air quality in Delhi was recorded in the very poor category for the 14th consecutive day. The air quality index in the national capital was recorded at 377 on Thursday, indicating that there is no possibility of any relief in the coming week.

Mumbai's bad air and Ethiopia's volcano...
Mumbai: The Bombay High Court said that the authorities cannot blame the ash clouds rising from a volcano in Ethiopia for the air pollution in the metropolis. The air quality index in Mumbai has been going bad for a long time. Additional public prosecutor Jyoti Chauhan argued that the air in Mumbai has become bad due to the volcanic eruption in Ethiopia two days ago. The court rejected this argument, saying that the air pollution was long before the volcanic eruption.
