Hong Kong fire: Efforts to extinguish the blaze continue for the second day, 94 deaths

Hong Kong fire: Firefighters struggled for a second day on Thursday to extinguish a blaze in a high-rise residential building in Hong Kong. The death toll from one of the deadliest fires in the city’s modern history has risen to 94.
Thick smoke billowed from some windows in the Smu Wang Fuk Court complex, a high-rise housing complex housing thousands of people in Tai Po district, a northern suburb bordering the mainland, as rescue workers searched apartments with flashlights in the charred buildings.

Firefighters were still working on some apartments and were trying to enter all units in seven buildings to prevent further casualties, officials said.

“Our firefighting operation is almost complete,” said Derek Armstrong Chan, deputy director of fire services operations. "Firefighters were working hard to contain the debris and embers from igniting. Search and rescue operations are ongoing," he said.
