Kejriwal's bungalow will be investigated, BJP alleges misuse of government funds for Sheesh Mahal

On the complaint of BJP MLA Vijender Gupta, the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) has directed the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) to conduct a detailed investigation into the renovation of the Chief Minister's residence at 6, Flagstaff Road. The BJP has alleged corruption in this work. It claims that questions have been raised about it in the CAG report as well. The party had made it a big issue in the elections by calling it a Sheesh Mahal. Now after the CVC ordered an investigation, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's troubles may increase. Arvind Kejriwal had stayed at the government residence at 6, Flagstaff Road since he became the CM in 2015 until he resigned from the post in September, 2024. The BJP alleges that Kejriwal has illegally converted the Chief Minister's residence into a Sheesh Mahal. Vijender Gupta had given two complaints to the CVC in this matter on October 14 and October 21. In the first complaint, he had said that the Chief Minister's residence was illegally expanded.

Therefore, government properties located in the neighbourhood were merged into that complex. This included the official residences of senior officers and judges, plots number 45 and 47 on Rajpur Road and two bungalows (8-A and 8-B) on Flag Staff Road. These properties were demolished and a Sheesh Mahal was built on 10 acres. This work was done in complete violation of building rules and land use regulations. In the second complaint, there is an allegation of misuse of taxpayers' money on providing luxury amenities and decorations in the Chief Minister's residence. The CVC had handed over the investigation to the CPWD. The complaint was found to be correct in the preliminary investigation report submitted by the CPWD on February 13. After this, the CVC asked it to conduct a detailed investigation.
