Drug smuggling case: Name of Baltej, nephew of Indira Gandhi's assassin Satwant Singh, made public for the first time

Drug smuggling case: New Zealand's leading news organization 'Stuff' has for the first time made public the name of Baltej Singh, who is the nephew of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's assassin Satwant Singh. Baltej is accused of being the mastermind of the largest methamphetamine (drug) smuggling in New Zealand's history. Although Indian and international media had already published his name, the local media there was forced to keep his identity a secret until now due to a ban imposed by the New Zealand court.

Baltej has now withdrawn his legal battle to remain anonymous. The case came to light in the year 2023 after a 21-year-old youth died after accidentally drinking a drug-laced beer. During the investigation, the police had recovered about 700 kg of the drug hidden in juice and beer cans imported from Canada.
