Zelensky agrees to ceasefire, now Russia's tone is changing; Putin's ally says big thing about ceasefire

Russia and the US are set to hold talks on a 30-day ceasefire plan soon. Ukraine has already agreed to the plan. The talks took place shortly after Russian President Vladimir Putin appeared on television in military uniform. During the talks, Putin said he would soon retake Kursk. Putin's comments came after the Russian Defense Ministry announced on Thursday that it had recaptured Sudza, the largest city in the Kursk region, from Ukrainian forces. Ukrainian forces captured the Kursk region after a surprise attack on the border in August 2024. On the other hand, US negotiators are visiting Russia to present their plan for talks. The US is pressuring Russia to make an 'unconditional' agreement. Meanwhile, Kremlin foreign policy adviser and Putin aide Yuri Ushakov said the ceasefire would provide Ukraine with a “temporary reprieve.”

Putin’s aide has a big say on the ceasefire
“This will be nothing more than a temporary reprieve for the Ukrainian army,” Yuri Ushakov told state media after speaking by phone with US National Security Adviser Mike Waltz.

“President Vladimir Putin is expected to give a concrete assessment of the matter on Thursday. Russia is focused on a long-term peaceful solution that will protect Russia’s legitimate interests.”

Yuri Ushakov, Kremlin foreign policy adviser
“This is what we are striving for. I believe that in the current situation, no one needs to take steps like peaceful action.”
