A plane carrying 172 passengers caught fire, a major accident on an American Airlines plane caused a stampede at Denver Airport.

  Washington: A major accident has occurred at Denver International Airport in the US. There was chaos here after an American Airlines plane caught fire. The 172 passengers on board the plane were quickly evacuated.

According to Denver International Airport officials, the fire broke out in a plane parked at Gate C38 and thick black smoke was rising on the tarmac.

No casualties
Airport officials said the fire has been extinguished and no one was injured. Meanwhile, the Federal Aviation Administration said that American Airlines Flight 1006 was diverted on Thursday evening and landed safely at Denver International Airport.

There were 172 passengers on board
After landing safely at Denver International Airport (DEN) and taxiing to the gate, American Airlines Flight 1006 encountered engine-related problems. 172 passengers and six crew members were taken off the plane and taken to the terminal.

Fox31 quoted an American Airlines statement as saying, "We thank our crew members, the DEN team and first responders for their quick and decisive action, putting the safety of everyone on the plane and on the ground first."

Plane diverted
The flight had taken off from Colorado Springs Airport and was headed to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, but was diverted to DIA. American Airlines said the aircraft used for the flight was a Boeing 737-800.
