Supreme Court rejects plea for fresh counselling for NEET-PG 2024, says - 30 more will come if three petitions are considered

The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a plea seeking cancellation of the third round of All India Quota (AIQ) of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Postgraduate (NEET-PG) 2024 and conducting it afresh. A bench of Justices B R Gavai and K. Vinod Chandran passed the order after the counsel appearing for the National Medical Commission (NMC) said, “If anything has to be done now, it will affect all the states as the students have already participated in the counselling.” He said there is a timetable for admission to postgraduate (PG) courses. While dismissing the plea, the bench said that if they consider the three petitions, 30 more petitions will reach here. The Supreme Court had sought responses from the Centre, NMC and others on the plea on February 4.

The petitioners, who are eligible for NEET-PG 2024 counselling, said that the AIQ counselling round-3 for NEET-PG started before the end of the second round of counselling in some states. The petition filed through advocate Tanvi Dubey said that the petitioners are aggrieved by the conflict between the counselling programme regarding AIQ and state quota. It said that state quota has given an opportunity to many applicants to register in AIQ round-3 and block seats who were ineligible for registration for AIQ round-3.
