On June 12, 2025, an Air India plane carrying passengers crashed in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. 270 people died in this accident, but the exact cause of the accident is still unknown. The investigation is ongoing. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Central Government. A petition was filed in the Supreme Court regarding the Ahmedabad plane crash. In this petition, an independent investigation into the plane crash was sought. During the hearing, the Supreme Court issued a notice to the Central Government. A bench of Justices Surya Kant and N. Koteshwar Singh heard the case. The Supreme Court termed the AAIB's preliminary investigation as "irresponsible". The report did not mention the cause of the accident and suspected pilot error. The Supreme Court expressed displeasure and termed the accident as unfortunate. According to Live Law, Safety Matters Foundation has filed a petition in the Supreme Court, claiming that fundamental rights are being violated in the investigation into the Air India plane crash. The petition questions the report of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB). In its report, the AAIB suspects that the plane crash was caused by fuel cut. Advocate Prashant Bhushan, representing the petitioner, said, "Air India Boeing Dreamliner 171 was flown by experienced pilots. It has been 100 days since the accident. Only a preliminary report has been issued so far. Even this report has not clearly stated the cause of the plane crash. It clearly shows that the lives of all the passengers on board the Boeing are in danger." According to Prashant Bhushan, A five-member team is investigating the matter, three of whom are from the DGCA. The DGCA may also be responsible for the plane crash. In such a situation, how will a fair investigation be conducted? Orders to maintain confidentiality During the hearing on the petition, the Supreme Court issued a notice to the Central Government and sought its response. The court ordered the Central Government to take strict steps to ensure a fair investigation into the matter. Speaking on the AAIB report, Justice Surya Kant said, "Instead of sharing information in parts, confidentiality should be maintained till the investigation is fully completed and a conclusion is reached."
