Flags at Brampton City Council offices will be flown at half-mast for a week in remembrance of the Sikh genocide that took place in India in 1984 after the assassination of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. This decision taken by the council has been ongoing for the past several years.

According to the information received, the employees observed a two-minute silence in this regard and paid tribute to the deceased. These flags, which were flown at half-mast from November 1, will be flown at half-mast till November 7. Many other Canadian cities have also held memorial services, including Vancouver, Surrey, Abbotsford, Pickering, Calgary, Regina and Ottawa.

Preparations are being made for a large gathering of Sikhs at Parliament Hill in Ottawa, the capital of the country, on November 13. Special arrangements will be made for buses for the Sangat on that day by the committees of Gurdwara Sahibs in Toronto, Brampton and nearby. One of the organizers, Avtar Singh Punia, said that through this initiative, the information of the terrible massacres that happened in Delhi and other cities of India will be conveyed to the global level, while the message of peace and unity will also be given so that such a tragic incident does not happen again in the future.
