US military considering use of largest non-nuclear bomb against Iran: report

The US military is considering using the largest non-nuclear bomb in its stockpile to target Iran's energy infrastructure and nuclear sites. However, this would require the approval of President Donald Trump.

This bomb is also known as 'mother of all bombs'. According to CNN (CNN), the use of 'GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast Bomb' (MOAB) will prove to be a big and serious turning point in the ongoing war against Iran. This war has now entered its eighth month.

Trump told Newsmax on Thursday that the US could launch another attack on Iran's nuclear facilities, including a highly secure site known as 'Pickx Mountain'.

When asked if he was considering using the 'mother of all bombs' after the November 3 midterm elections, Trump said that it is not a nuclear weapon.

"It's not nuclear at all, it's just a very large bomb. It's like a small nuclear bomb. But the 'mother of all bombs' is a very large bomb - but it's not nuclear. I'm not going to use nuclear weapons, we don't have to," Trump said.

The nearly 21,600-pound MOAB was first used in April 2017, during Trump's first term, to destroy a tunnel complex belonging to the Islamic State (IS) group in Afghanistan.

Officials have also questioned whether the bomb could effectively destroy Iranian nuclear facilities buried deep underground, CNN reported.

In his speech to the UN General Assembly last month, Trump said he had a "big decision" to make - whether to make a deal with Iran or "totally destroy the Islamic Republic (Iran)".
