Putin Ukraine Ceasefire: Pope Leo's health improved after lung surgery, talks with Putin

Putin Ukraine Ceasefire: Pope Leo's health continues to improve after lung cancer surgery. He had a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin and appealed for a ceasefire in the war-torn city of Oleshki in Ukraine. The Vatican said the pope called for food and medical aid to be delivered to the people there and for the safe evacuation of civilians.

The Pope reiterated his commitment to promoting dialogue and peace during the talks, according to the Vatican. Russia's Kremlin said Putin blamed the Ukrainian government for the situation in the region in response to the pope's concern. Both sides agreed to coordinate efforts for the safety of local people and supply of essential goods.

Able to do their own work after surgery

The 71-year-old Pope underwent surgery on October 13, during which the lower part of his right lung was removed. Tests confirmed adenocarcinoma, the most common type of lung cancer. Doctors said that his health is steadily improving and he can do daily activities on his own. The Vatican said they will also hold the traditional noon prayer on Sunday.
