Vijaya Raj now in Tamil Nadu

  Actor Joseph Vijay Sworn In as Tamil Nadu CM: Actor-turned-politician Joseph Vijay took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Sunday. Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath to Vijay during a ceremony held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium. Apart from Vijay, 'Baasi' N Anand, Adhav Arjun, KA Sengotian, KG Arunraj, P Venkataramanan, CTR Nirmal Kumar, A Rajmohan, Keerthana and KT Prabhu took oath as ministers. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and many senior leaders, Vijay's family, actress Trisha and other friends were present at the oath-taking ceremony. Former Chief Ministers DMK chief MK Stalin and AIADMK chief EK Palaniswami, Vijay's wife Sangeeta and two children were absent on the occasion. The oath-taking ceremony began with Vande Mataram, the national anthem and the Tamil national anthem. Vijay tried to turn the oath-taking ceremony into a powerful speech. He deviated from the prescribed script and used hand gestures to display his strength and power. However, Governor Arlekar instructed him to limit himself to the official oath. Vijay's party TVK (Tamil Vaitri Kadgam) emerged as the single largest party with 108 seats in the 234-member assembly.

The actor managed to secure the support of 120 MLAs with the support of Congress, VCK, CPI, CPI(M) and IUML. The figure of 118 was required to form the government. TVK chief and Chief Minister Vijay on Sunday resigned from the Tiruchirappalli East constituency and retained his seat from the Perambur constituency. The actor had contested from two constituencies during the assembly elections. TVK MLA MV Karupaiah took oath as the pro-tem Speaker on Sunday. Governor Rajendra Arlekar administered the oath to Karupaiah during a simple ceremony held at the Lok Bhawan. Chief Minister Joseph C Vijay was also present on the occasion. Karupaiah, who left the AIADMK and joined the TVK, has won the election from the Sholavandan constituency. The newly elected members of the assembly will take oath on Monday. Under the orders, domestic electricity consumers will now get 200 units of free electricity. 'Singa Pen Special Action Force' will be set up for the safety of women. 65 'Anti Narcotics Task Force' units will be formed to crack down on drug-related crimes. There will be one such unit in each district, while the remaining units will be set up in nine major cities. The Chief Minister also reviewed the law and order situation by holding a meeting with top officials.
