'Nature is testing us...', Prime Minister Modi spoke from the Red Fort on disasters like Kishtwar, assured full support

  As the country celebrates its 79th Independence Day today, horrific images of devastation are emerging from the hill states. On Thursday, 46 people lost their lives in a cloudburst incident in Kishtwar, while over 200 people are missing, for whom rescue operations are underway.

On the cloudburst incidents, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his speech from the ramparts of the Red Fort, expressed solidarity with those affected by the recent natural disasters across the country. Prime Minister Modi said

Highlighting the collaborative efforts of the state and central governments to deal with the crises, he said that the state governments and the central government are working with full force on rescue operations, relief operations and rehabilitation work.

Over 200 injured

The death toll in flash floods caused by cloudbursts in the Chesoti area of Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday has risen to 45 and over 200 people have been injured, officials said.
