Sisodia and Satyendar Jain's problems increase, President approves prosecution in Rs 1300 crore classroom scam

Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain, who were ministers in the Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi, have suffered a major setback. The President has approved the prosecution of both of them under the Corruption Act. Now, the two former ministers will be prosecuted in the alleged classroom scam of Rs 1300 crore.

Sources said that in the year 2022, the Vigilance Directorate of the Delhi government had recommended an investigation into the alleged scam and submitted a report to the Chief Secretary. In view of this, President Draupadi Murmu approved the registration of an FIR against Sisodia and Jain in connection with the alleged scam during their tenure as ministers in the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government. The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), in a report dated February 17, 2020, had exposed huge irregularities in the construction of more than 2400 classrooms in Delhi government schools by the Public Works Department (PWD). The Union Home Ministry has given permission to prosecute former PWD Minister Satyendar Jain in one of two separate letters and former Education Minister Manish Sisodia in the other. In this, permission has been given to prosecute both of them under Section 17-A of the Corruption Act-1988. Now the corruption committed during the tenure of both the former ministers will be investigated.

It is worth mentioning that in August last year, Manish Sisodia got bail from the Supreme Court and in October, Satyendar Jain got bail from the Rouse Avenue Court. Manish Sisodia was in jail for 17 months in the alleged excise scam case, while Satyendar Jain was arrested in 2022 in the money laundering case and has been in jail since then. Now permission has been given to prosecute both of them once again. That is, now the problems of both of them may increase once again.
