One Nation-One Election: The bill regarding One Nation-One Election will be presented in the Lok Sabha tomorrow, the Cabinet had approved it on Thursday.

The Modi government has completed preparations to implement the one nation, one election. The government has listed two bills related to the one nation, one election for introduction in the Lok Sabha on Monday. Law Minister Arjun Meghwal will introduce the Constitution (129th Amendment) Bill and the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill in the lower house. The ruling BJP took a major step towards implementing its flagship agenda of one nation, one election on Thursday when the Cabinet, led by PM Narendra Modi, approved the Constitution Amendment Bill to hold simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. The Cabinet had approved two bills, including a general bill. This bill will amend the laws related to the three Union Territories with assemblies and adjust them with the Constitution Amendment Bill. The proposed Constitution Amendment Bill will make provisions for holding simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.

A high-level committee headed by former President Ram Nath Kovind had proposed holding municipal and panchayat elections in a phased manner along with the Lok Sabha and state assemblies, but the cabinet has decided to stay away from local elections for now. According to IANS, while the NDA has supported one nation, one election, stating that it is in the national interest, the opposition has termed it an attack on federalism. According to the central government, the aim of this initiative is to streamline the electoral process, increase efficiency and reduce the financial and administrative burden associated with conducting elections. Union Minister Giriraj Singh defended the move, questioning the opposition's objections. He accused the Congress of distorting the Constitution for political gains and said that one nation, one election is in the national interest. Holding elections repeatedly affects development and wastes resources. This system was in force till 1967.
