Donald Trump: 18 thousand Indians may be deported from America, why is there a looming threat?

The US may deport about 18,000 Indians during the tenure of newly elected President Donald Trump. This information has come out of the data released by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

17,940 Indians at risk

Accordingly, 17,940 Indians living in the US are among the 14.5 crore people who are at risk of being deported. ICE said that deporting immigrants living in the US without proper documents is Trump's border security agenda.

Donald Trump will be sworn in as the President of the US on January 20 next year. He has been in favor of a strict immigration policy for immigrants. ICE had released this data in November 2024.

Had to go through a long legal process
Accordingly, 17,940 Indians have been placed on the final orders list who are not in ICE custody, but are waiting to be deported. Many of these Indians have faced legal proceedings for more than three years.

The report names India among 15 countries that have been accused of not cooperating in the deportation process. According to the data, about 90,000 Indians have been caught illegally entering the US border in the last 3 years.
