Corona Vaccine: DCGI gives approval to launch Kovovacs in the market, expert committee recommends

  New Delhi, Agency. The Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) has approved the Covid-19 vaccine Covax to be marketed as a heterologous booster dose for adults. Covax can be given to adults who have been given two doses of CovaShield or Covaxin. Official sources gave this information on Monday.

Letter to DCGI
The approval of the DCGI came after the recommendation of the subject expert committee of the Central Drug Standard Control Organization (CDSCO). Prakash Kumar Singh, Director, Government and Regulatory Affairs, Serum Institute of India (SII) recently wrote to the DCGI for approval of CovoVax heterologous booster dose for people aged 18 years and above in view of the growing Covid-19 pandemic. was

The expert committee recommended
A CDSCO subject expert committee discussed the issue on Wednesday and recommended launching Covax as a contrast booster dose for adults who have taken two doses of Covishield or Covaxin, an official source said. DCGI approved Covax for use in emergency situations in adults on 28 December 2021.

DCGI approved emergency use
Further, the DCGI had approved Covax for emergency use in the age group of 12-17 years on March 9, 2022 and in the age group of 7-11 years on June 28 last year, with certain conditions.
