Three Indian students murdered in Canada, Ministry of Foreign Affairs says – Be vigilant against hate crimes

  The Indian High Commission in Ottawa has taken up the issue of safety of Indians with the Canadian authorities after three Indian students were murdered in Canada last week. India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) gave this information on Friday. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that the safety, security and welfare of Indian citizens in Canada is of utmost importance to us. "We have witnessed unfortunate tragedies in the last one week," he said. Three Indian students have been murdered. We are saddened by these terrible tragedies that have befallen our citizens in Canada. 'High Commission is busy trying to help' 'We express our deepest condolences to the bereaved families,' he said. 'Our High Commissions and Consulates in Toronto and Vancouver are providing all possible assistance in this matter.' Jaiswal said that the Indian mission in that country is in touch with the local authorities to thoroughly investigate the incidents. "The issues faced by them, especially Indian students, are regularly raised with the relevant Canadian authorities by our High Commission and Consulate," he said. "We have also issued an advisory to our citizens and Indian students to exercise extreme caution and remain vigilant in view of the deteriorating security environment in Canada, as incidents of hate crimes and criminal violence are on the rise."
