Washington: The US has said about the H-1B visa that it has completed the visa limit of 65,000 set by the Congress for the fiscal year 2024. The Federal Immigration Service Agency of the country has informed the successful applicants about this. The H-1B visa in the US is a non-immigrant visa that allows foreign professionals specializing in technology to be employed by US companies. Tech companies hire thousands of skilled professionals from countries like India, China every year. The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) said on Monday that it has received enough electronically registered applicants for fiscal year 2024. 6,800 visas out of the 65,000 annual limit for H-1B category visas are protected under the US-Chile and US-Singapore Free Trade Agreements. Validly registered H-1B visa subjects may file their appeals with USCIS beginning April 1, 2023. In a letter written to the Foundation for India and Indian Diaspora Studies (FIIDS), USCIS Director URM Jaddu said that when US tech companies fire H-1B visa holders, they are not aware of other alternatives. FIIDS works for terminated H-1B workers. The Presidential Advisory Commission has recently recommended an extension of the appeal limit to 60 days. Laid-off workers must first apply to change their nonimmigrant status.
