Amarjit Chawla, facing rape allegations, spotted in Surrey; claims he is moving about in disguise

  Amarjit Singh Chawla, a senior leader of the Akali Dal (Badal) who came to Canada to evade arrest following a rape case registered against him in Punjab based on a woman's complaint, has reportedly been spotted in the city of Surrey. According to sources familiar with him, he moves around wearing an oversized medical mask to conceal his identity. One source recounted spotting a man getting out of a car in the parking lot of a Gurdwara near Gurdwara Sahib Dashmesh Darbar in Surrey; based on the individual's gait and mannerisms, the source suspected it might be Chawla. However, as the source approached and greeted him by name with "Sat Sri Akal," Chawla immediately quickened his pace and headed toward the rear exit of the Gurdwara building. Another source reported seeing him two days ago—wearing a large turban style wrapped over his head—walking towards a car parked in the driveway of an acquaintance's home.

Another source mentioned knowing Chawla since the time he and Mehta were student federation leaders—forming the well-known ‘Chawla-Mehta’ duo—and noted that he had been a close associate of his for a few years. He stated that Chawla had frequently visited Surrey over the years and they had often crossed paths, making it easy to recognize him even in his altered attire. He claimed to know the locations where Chawla was staying.
