North Liberty, Iowa – On Saturday, March 4, 2023 For the first time in two years since the COVID-19 pandemic, Iowa City, Coralville, and North Liberty came together once again to commemorate IAICA’s annual Harvest Festival. The celebration included cultural programs ranging from classical to modern-fusion performances and an Indian-cuisine dinner. 640 attendees, the highest number it’s ever been in IAICA history, enjoyed and cherished this celebration. Among the attendees, more than 60 were from non-Indian communities, to observe and participate in Indian festivities.

The Harvest Festival first came into execution 12 years ago; since then, it has been an annual tradition of IAICA to draw the community from in and around Iowa City, who has shown a special interest in Indian culture. Unlike other years, the 2023 HF hosted a fashion show which showcased sarees from different states of India to represent our unity in diversity and martial arts, a new addition to the program. Many local talents from Iowa City, North Liberty, Coralville, and Cedar Rapids performed a wide variety of programs.

The event kicked off with the United States and Indian national anthems followed by a welcome speech by IAICA President Dr. Sudhakar Subramani. It also included duet singing, a semi-classical dance, a filmy dance, singing memories, kids’ bhangra, a kid’s fusion dance, Bharatnatyam, a newly-formed desi chorus group singing, Bollywood dance, and a saree fashion show.
During the short break of 15 minutes, the program continued with the introduction of its executive committee along with a video display of all the sponsors of this event.
After the break, the performances continued with a Kuchipudi dance, “Handsome Dads of Iowa City Area”’s motionless dance/non-movement dance, a Yashoda and Krishna classical dance, an 8-year-old girl Carnatic rendition, a martial arts show, a south spice dance, women bhangra, a Kavadichind dance and Bollywood dance from high school graduates.

All of the performances were very well-received by the audience. At the program’s conclusion, there was a lucky draw, implemented for the first time, for the performers and audience separately, and felicitation to our media representative Mr. Gurmeet Singh Dhalwan, Director Adbhhut media, Chicago by Cultural Chair Dr. Sweta Sinha, and President of IAICA.

With 26 impressive programs and performances, the program concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Prashant Borse, Technical Director, IAICA.
We thank all of the performers for their participation and everyone, such as the executive board and volunteers, who helped make the event happen. We invite the public to attend all future IAICA events and mark their calendars.
The India Association of Iowa City Area (IAICA) sincerely appreciate and thank to Mr. Gurmeet Singh Dhalwan Founder, Chairman & Publisher of Adbhhut Media - Newspaper & Channel for his media coverage of Harvest Festival 2023.
