Trump Immigration Policy: The US Supreme Court has agreed to hear a dispute regarding the Trump administration's immigration policy, under which millions of immigrants living illegally in the US can be mandatorily detained during deportation proceedings. This case, concerning Trump's strict immigration policy, has now reached the nation's highest court. Lower courts have delivered conflicting rulings on the matter, and numerous lawsuits challenging the policy have been filed by immigrants and organizations advocating for their rights. The Supreme Court has accepted the Trump administration's appeal challenging a lower court's ruling against the policy. The Court will hear the case during the session beginning on Monday. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security issued new directives for federal immigration officials in July 2025. These mandated that immigrants residing illegally in the U.S. be held in custody without a bond hearing until their deportation proceedings were concluded. Such proceedings can take months or even years to complete. This directive differed from a practice in place for nearly three decades, under which certain immigrants already in the U.S. could be released on bond while their cases were pending in immigration court. Thousands of lawsuits against the Trump administration's policy This controversial policy is one of several measures taken by the Trump administration as part of a goal to carry out large-scale deportations. Since returning to power last year, Republican President Trump has taken major action on immigration, which has been one of his key priorities. Migrants detained under this policy have filed thousands of lawsuits seeking their release.
