  Hormuz Crisis India: According to a report by the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air, India has incurred an estimated additional total cost of Rs 18,300 crore (US$ 2,200 million) on fossil fuel imports between March and August 2026 due to the surge in energy prices due to the Hormuz waterway crisis. India has been described as the second most affected importing country after China in terms of additional import cost. However, when the economic impact is looked at, India's net additional cost on all fossil fuels is stated to be Rs 11,970 crore (US$ 1,440 million), which is about 1.4 days of the country's national income or 0.38 percent of the country's GDP. According to the report, India's net additional cost for crude oil alone was Rs 17,015 crore ($20.5 billion). India's third-highest additional cost after China (Rs 29,050 crore or $35 billion) and the European Union (Rs 64,740 crore or $78 billion), which includes liquefied natural gas, oil products and crude oil transported by sea.
