US President Donald Trump said today that the US has reached an agreement to take control of 65 billion barrels of oil reserves in the South American country of Venezuela. Trump announced the agreement in a social media post, which he said was reached through talks between Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Venezuela's acting President Delcy Rodriguez. "The United States has just signed the largest oil deal in the history of the world with Venezuela!" Trump wrote. The Venezuelan government's press office did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The agreement comes nearly nine months after the US military launched an operation on Trump's orders to capture Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and bring him to the US to face federal narco-terrorism and drug trafficking charges. With the war in Iran marking six months on Friday and showing no sign of ending anytime soon, Trump is facing mounting pressure to deal with high gas prices.
