Narendra Modi receives warm welcome in Uzbekistan

  Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for a two-nation visit to Uzbekistan and the Kyrgyz Republic this morning. The Prime Minister has arrived in Uzbekistan on a two-day visit where he was received by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the airport in Tashkent. This is Modi's fourth visit to Uzbekistan. Earlier, Modi said in his message that he will present India's perspective during the SCO meeting in the Kyrgyz Republic and discuss working together with fellow members to make the region free from terrorism. Modi will first visit Uzbekistan (August 29-30) and then attend the summit in Bishkek (August 30-September 1). The Prime Minister hoped that his visit will further strengthen India's strategic partnership in Central Asia. In his farewell statement, Modi said that India has been an active member of the SCO since 2017. He said that he will work to make the region free from terrorism, separatism and extremism as these have threatened peace and stability in many countries. The Prime Minister said that he is going to Tashkent at the invitation of Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. He will visit the Mahatma Gandhi Centre and the Shastri Memorial at the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies and pay tribute to the two leaders. After this, Modi will travel to Bishkek to participate in the 26th SCO Summit where he will also attend the opening ceremony of the 6th World Nomad Games. He will also hold bilateral meetings with the SCO leaders.
