  Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat said that unity in diversity is in India's DNA and it should be celebrated. He said that it should be respected as well as accepted. Addressing over 6,000 members of the Indian-American community and leaders of different religions at a grand event held at the Infosys Theatre in New York's Madison Square Garden on Saturday, Bhagwat called for embracing diversity and supporting communities. He said, "When we say America or the United States of America, one word is often discussed and that is pluralism. And when we say India, another phrase is discussed and that is unity in diversity." His remarks drew applause from the audience. He said this at the "Universal Oneness Celebration" event organized by the American Hindus for Engagement and Dialogue Forum. He said, "For India, both unity and diversity are in its DNA." Referring to a message from Swami Vivekananda, he said that every nation has a goal in front of it, which it has to fulfill and a destiny, which it has to realize. The RSS chief said, "What destiny has India got? India's purpose is to realize unity in this diversity and from time to time make the world realize it. We are one and our very diversity makes our unity more beautiful." In his address of about an hour, he said, “Diversity should be celebrated, it should be respected and it should be accepted. At the same time, we should also keep in mind this feeling of unity. It is a very true feeling.”
