FIFA World Cup 2026: Only 505 Indians approved for Canada visas

  Thousands of foreign fans who wanted to watch matches in Canada during the FIFA World Cup held in North America from June 11 to July 19, 2026, faced disappointment after not being granted visas. According to data shared by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) with 'Radio Canada International', 28,595 applications were received for Canadian visitor visas in the context of the FIFA World Cup between November 14, 2025 and April 30, 2026. Of these, only 6,535 applicants were issued visas, while a large number of applications were either rejected or awaiting a decision. On the other hand, the situation was much easier for citizens of Canada's visa-exempt countries. 4,110 citizens from countries including Australia, Denmark, Finland, France and Germany applied for electronic travel authorization (eTA), of which 3,925 were approved. While the visitor visa fee is 100 Canadian dollars, the eTA fee is only 7 dollars. India, Pakistan visa rates lower; Ghana, Spain ahead 2,460 people from India applied for visitor visas for FIFA World Cup matches, but only 505 of them were successful in obtaining visas. Only 155 out of 2,255 applicants from Pakistan were approved, which was one of the lowest success rates. In contrast, 2,140 out of 3,185 applications from Ghana were issued visas. All 65 applicants from World Cup winners Spain were also approved by Canada.
