‘Don’t waste time’: Supreme Court refuses urgent hearing on plea against police action during CJP protest

  The Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected a plea for urgent listing of a plea challenging police action on students during a protest march led by the Cockroach Janta Party in Delhi. The matter was listed before a bench of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V. Mohana. “I also have videos of police brutality… if it can be listed tomorrow (Thursday)… the students are there,” the lawyer said. He said that police brutality was allegedly committed against students during the protest and said the plea contained three ardas (prayers). The Chief Justice (CJI) rejected the plea and made it clear that the bench is not ready to examine the video footage at the mention stage. The CJI said, "We are not interested in the videos, we do not have time to watch... We do not want to watch the videos." When the lawyer reiterated that the students were beaten up and again referred to the video evidence, the CJI said, "Don't waste our time. We do not want to watch any videos."
