Leaving paddy and wheat, the farmers of the state are now moving towards vegetables and horticulture. For the last few years, the interest of farmers in potato farming has been increasing significantly. To increase the income of farmers, the 'Potato Technology Center' located in Shamgarh has done a successful research through aeroponic technology. With this technology, 60 mini tubers (seed potatoes) will be obtained from a single plant. This revolution in potato seed production will prove to be a 'game changer' for many big states. Haryana will now meet the seed requirement of states like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal. Potato farming is done in an area of about 34 thousand hectares in the state. This includes five main varieties - Kufri Uday, Pukhraj, Kufri Mohan, Kufri Chipsona, Kufri Surya, Anand and Pushkar. Research was conducted on a new variety of potato, "Kufri Uday", at Shamgarh Center. The speed of tuber formation was found to be the highest in this type of plant. Along with this, this seed is 100 percent fungus-free, bacteria-free and virus-free due to not being in soil. What is Aeroponic Technology? Aeroponic technology is a modern method of farming, in which the roots of plants remain in the air instead of soil or water. This leads to rapid growth of the plant in less water and less space and gives more production. In this technique, the plant is suspended in the air and nutrients are sprayed on the roots through computer-controlled machines. This system has increased seed production seven times, that is, 60 seed potatoes have been obtained from one plant. While only eight mini-tubers were produced per plant in traditional farming and net houses. Haryana will fulfill the seed requirement of other states with the new record 1. Research on aeroponic technology in the 'Kufri Uday' variety without soil and cocopeat has yielded positive results. 2. With this farming technology, the production of potato seeds in Haryana will increase seven times. 3. Till now, only 8 potatoes are obtained from one plant through traditional farming. 4. Potato cultivation is done in 34 thousand hectares of area in Haryana state. Network will spread to Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal Shamgarh Potato Technology Center is currently sending about 4500 metric tons of high quality potato seeds to other states. After getting 60 mini tubers per plant in the new research, the seed production capacity of the center will increase many times. Now a plan is being prepared to cover the states with the largest potato producing belt of the country. Now Haryana will be fully capable of meeting the needs of its farmers as well as providing potato seeds on a large scale to farmers of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal and other major states. "Getting 60 mini tubers from one plant in aeroponic technique is a milestone for us. In our earlier research, we were able to grow only 40 mini tubers, but this great success has been achieved due to serious studies, proper nutrient management and continuous efforts of our scientists. This will increase our capacity many times over and we can be in a position to provide seeds to other states as well as export them."
