The Israeli army has captured a strategically important hill and the historic Beaufort Fort built on it in a major operation in southern Lebanon. This is Israel's deepest incursion into Lebanon in the past quarter of a century. The capture of the fort, located near the city of Nabatieh, came after days of fierce fighting with Hezbollah and air strikes. Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed on 'X' that the Israeli flag has been raised over the fort. The operation comes at a time when peace talks between the two countries are underway in Washington. Israel had previously captured the fort in 1982, which was vacated in 2000.
