Days after the arrest of Aam Aadmi Party leader and minister Sanjeev Arora in a money laundering case, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued a notice to Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (Powercom) Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) Basant Garg. The case relates to the alleged benefit of a private company linked to Minister Sanjeev Arora by illegally returning a bank guarantee worth crores of rupees. According to sources, the ED has asked the CMD to appear in the coming week with the records of the entire case. Confirming this notice, CMD Basant Garg gave further information that Powercom will hand over all the files and records related to the case to the ED and the officials will go to the office of the investigating agency with the requested documents. This entire dispute is related to Hampton Court Business Park in Ludhiana. In the year 2023, when Sanjeev Arora was a Rajya Sabha member, his company 'Ritesh Properties and Industries Limited' had applied to Powercom to increase the load capacity of electricity. As per the rules, the company had deposited a bank guarantee of Rs 1.97 crore, which was till the year 2028. Later in the year 2025, when Arora won the by-election and became the MLA and became the Power Minister in the Bhagwant Mann government in August 2025, the company applied again to change the voltage supply of electricity. Powercom had clearly told the company that the old bank guarantee would be returned only when they deposited a new guarantee of Rs 1.87 crore.
