Supreme Court Judge Justice KV Vishwanathan refuses to hear the case

  Supreme Court Judge Justice K.V. Vishwanathan has recused himself from hearing an important case. This decision was taken when it came to light that before becoming a judge, he had appeared as a lawyer for the appellant in the same case. It is noteworthy that Justice Vishwanathan was promoted to the Supreme Court Judge directly from the Bar in May 2023 and has been one of the eminent senior lawyers of the country. The case was related to ‘Alchemist Asset Reconstruction Company’, on which a bench of Justice J.B. Pardiwala and Justice K.V. Vishwanathan had completed the hearing and reserved the verdict on March 17. However, before pronouncing the verdict, it came to the notice of Justice Vishwanathan that he had earlier been a lawyer in this corporate insolvency process. Keeping this ethical aspect in mind, the court has withdrawn its earlier order and now this matter will be listed before another bench as per the directions of the Chief Justice of India (CJI).
