US President Donald Trump's new tariff policies and diplomatic blunders have put 25 years of India-US relations at risk. A leading Democratic lawmaker and several former US diplomats have warned that if the situation does not improve, the partnership between the two countries could suffer serious damage. An emergency conference call was called to discuss the issue, in which voices were raised to defend the importance of India-US relations. It was organized by Congressman Ro Khanna, co-chairman of the Congressional India Caucus. Former US ambassadors Rich Verma and Eric Garcetti, as well as industrialist Vinod Khosla and Indian-origin tech leaders, participated in it. The call is evidence of how much unease there is in the Indian-American community about this relationship. Ro Khanna clearly stated, "I don't make this call unless it's serious. It's necessary to sound the alarm to save this relationship." Khanna had earlier expressed concern over the deteriorating relations between India and the US in a video on X (formerly Twitter). His initiative clearly shows how seriously he is taking the issue. Former ambassadors who were part of the call also underlined the seriousness of the situation. Rich Verma said that Trump's policies in the last two months have destroyed 25 years of hard work.
