Washington: US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Thursday to ban the International Criminal Court (ICC). He said that those who participate in investigations that threaten the national security of the US and its allies, including Israel, will have to pay the price. The ICC had issued arrest warrants in November last year against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. They were charged with war crimes against humanity during the conflict with Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The ICC had faced a sharp reaction from the US and Israel for this. Both these countries are not members of the International Court. Trump's order said that the court's action against Israel and its initial investigation were related to the US. This is a dangerous precedent, which risks exposing former and current US officials to action by the International Criminal Court. He said that the ICC claimed jurisdiction and conducted a preliminary investigation into officials of the US and some of its allies, including Israel, without any legitimate basis.
